Massage Therapy Program in Ohio
Ohio was the first state to license the practice of massage, and the first applicant was licensed in 1916. Ohio is unique in that it defines massage therapy as a “limited branch of the practice of medicine.” Therapists are licensed through the Medical Board of Ohio.

Coursework
A student must complete:
- 900 hours (36 credit hours) of instruction
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Pathology
- Massage Theory and Practicum
- Ethics
- Business Law
- Clinicals
- Complete an approved CPR course and have a current CPR card at the time of graduation
- 30 hours of experience in clinic operations
- 75 one-hour massages in the student massage clinics
- Training in medical massage ethics, basic business practices and styles of patient approaches
